Washed up in the ocean off an Italian shore, a group of fishermen on their boat discovered Jason Bourne in the water. On the boat was a doctor, Giancarlo, who inspected Bourne's body and began to surgically remove bullet shells and incisions found on his back; which inside held a device consisting of an important bank number. A little while after surgery, Jason woke up and began to attack the doctor having no recollection of why he was there or how he even got in the water, the doctor reassured him he would be okay and to try recalling his memory. At the next stop, Jason got off, and began his search for himself at Germany where he made use of the bank device at the national bank which had various personal belongings: passports, contact cases, guns, and money. Out of all the passports, the name Jason Bourne helped jog his memory the most. After his run in at the bank, Bourne was reported to be alive to the CIA, who attempted to kill him off after failing a mission. Not having any knowledge of this, Bourne began to flee and fought off any security or authorities that came his way. Throughout his trip he ran into a woman named Marie who offered to give him a ride to Paris to further his knowledge of who he was, but on the entire trip there she began to have racing thoughts and delusions. While fighting off various CIA assassin agents, local, and federal authorities Bourne began to recall many of his memories. When Bourne finally reached Paris, Marie urged him to go to a psychiatrist to figure out why his memory has been failing to retrieve information. They reached a therapist named Frank Garzon, who diagnosed Jason with Dissociative Amnesia because he possessed the symptoms of psychological defense mechanisms and anxiety. The only treatment possible was cognitive therapy and hypnosis, which Bourne did both and has now recalled most of his memory realizing that the CIA wanted him dead because he failed to accomplish an assassin mission for them and he began to run from their restrictions. Marie was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, due to the fact that she races from thought to thought, goes through frequent mood changes, and has delusions; the doctor prescribed her with lithium medications and talk therapies.
